Best Anti-Virus in 2021

Trying to find out what the best Anti-Virus program is in 2021 is not an easy task, every person and every site has their own differing opinions.   Many home users still us either Norton or McAfee, they are the most popular but, in our opinion, not the best.

Windows 10 and Windows 11 actually come with some pretty decent built in AV protection in the form of Microsoft Defender, and for most people it’s honestly enough.   It won’t catch everything but its lightweight and won’t slow down your system.   If you have an older system then it’s our recommendation that you stick with it, adding an additional 3rd party security program often slows down older or under powered machines to a crawl.

Malwarebytes is definitely one program we recommend.  It’s available for Mac & PC with the free version requiring you to manually tell it to scan.   It’s very good at picking up any nasties that may have made it’s way on to your system.   There is a paid for version that adds a number of protection features, such as Realtime Web Protection, Exploit Protection and Ransomware Protection.   If you don’t mind spending a very reasonable amount of money per year on it (about £30 per year) then it’s well worth it.

If you are wanting something that has more features, such a firewall and VPN features then Bitdefender offer a number of different products.   Bitdefender Internet Security is probably what you want to go for if you are securing a single PC, but they do offer packs for multiple devices.

With Ransomware about though, it’s always a good idea to have a backup of your important data stored separately though, either in the cloud or on an external drive.  If your system becomes infected or encrypted, or indeed if your drive fails, having backup could save you a lot of grief.

If you do find yourself in a situation where you have lost data, or your machines has become infected and requires pc repair, we are happy to discuss your situation and offer some remedial options
